Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect?

If this is your first session, you will fill out an intake form on arrival at the office so I know how best to contact you as well and have a little information on what, if any, issues you'd like to address that day. We will also have a brief consultation to further discuss your goals for massage, so I can provide you with the techniques that best suit your needs - and I will show you where to place your belongings before I step out of the room so you can undress lay down on the treatment table.

There is an adjustable heating pad on the table and you'll be underneath a sheet with a blanket that can be removed so you should never be too cold or warm. I only uncover the area of the body that is being treated at the time.

Following your massage, I may provide you with suggestions for aftercare such as stretches or tools I think would be beneficial. Most importantly, we'll schedule your next appointment so you can continue on your well-being journey!

Why should I schedule an Ashiatsu massage instead of a traditional deep tissue massage?

It's deep tissue without the "OUCH!"

With Ashiatsu, the therapist is able to apply and sustain the smooth and constant deep pressure necessary for muscles to release tension.

Where traditional deep tissue depends on the therapist’s hand strength, your Ashiatsu therapist uses the overhead bars and their own weight to control the amount of pressure to the muscles, as needed.

This allows access to a of pressure that can be 3x as deep as that achieved relying on sheer strength and force of the hands, elbows, and forearms.

You'll never have to worry that you won't receive the depth of pressure you require and you won't be left with the "bruised" feeling that commonly occurs after being massaged with pokey thumbs and elbows.

Why do I need massage?

The benefits of massage are astounding - it contributes to the well being of your mind as well as your body.

Some of the benefits are:

  • Increased circulation
  • Stimulation of the lymph system, the body's natural defense against toxic invaders
  • Release of endorphins, the body's natural painkiller
  • Improved range of motion and decreased discomfort associated with lower back pain
  • Relaxation of injured and overused muscles
  • Reduced muscle spasms and cramping
  • Increased joint flexibility
  • Help recover from strenuous workouts
  • Pain relief from migraines
  • Improved digestion
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Increased sleep quality

When can I not receive massage?

If you have any of the following conditions, it is best for you to avoid massage at this time:

  • Systemic contagious or infectious diseases, including the common cold
  • Artery conditions requiring first aid or medical attention
  • Severe unstable hypertension
  • Fever
  • Blood clots

In the case of any issues below, please inform me so that I may avoid the area during treatment:

  • Acute flare-up of inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Local contagious or irritable skin conditions
  • Open sores or wounds
  • Recent surgery
  • Recent burn

Policies

Arrival

Please arrive for your appointment 10-15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time. This allows you the time to fill out your intake form, if this is your first visit as well as change and prepare for the service. All treatment sessions have a specific time schedule and early arrival allows for a relaxed and unhurried experience. If late arrival is inevitable, your service may be shortened in order to keep on schedule and the original treatment time may be charged.

Cancellation Policy and Fees

I understand that sometimes missing an appointment is unavoidable but please notify me at least 24 hours in advance by call or text so I have the opportunity to accommodate another guest during your previously scheduled time.

If you do not call ahead and miss an appointment - you will be required to pay a deposit to hold all future appointments.

*All new clients and online bookings must prepay for their services at the time of booking with a credit card or gift certificate. You will not receive a refund if you "no-show".

Late Arrival Policy

All treatment sessions have a specific time schedule therefore I regret that late arrivals may not receive extension of scheduled appointments. When my schedule will allow, I may be able to accommodate a partial or full appointment. This will be at my discretion and only with proper, advanced notification of your late arrival. The original reservation fee will be charged.

Scope of Practice

Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client.

I do not diagnose or prescribe for medical conditions. I may refer you to a medical doctor for diagnosis or treatment. My services are not intended as an alternative for proper medical attention for specific conditions. Please refer to a medical doctor for any specific condition which requires medical treatment.

Respect for Client Needs and Boundaries

I am happy to adjust pressure, temperature, musical volume, work longer on an area or move on if you request it.

The client may choose to: leave on as much clothing as needed for comfort, refuse any massage methods, stop massage at any time.

The client will always be modestly draped. Only the area being massaged will be un-draped. The clients will be kept informed of the area to be massaged.

Sexual interaction or discussion of any kind between the client and the massage therapist is NEVER appropriate.

Confidentiality

I treat all client visits and conditions as confidential. I will never discuss your visit with anyone without your express permission.

Existing and New Medical Conditions

It is the responsibility of the client to keep the massage therapist informed of any medical treatment currently being taken, and to provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc., that the massage may be continued.

The client must also keep the massage therapist informed of any changes in health conditions.

For clients undergoing chemo and radiation therapies – Please note that I require a doctor’s note that states the doctor is aware of and agrees to the desired treatment.
